Get tickets hereAfzelius: “Elvis got me singing, The Beatles got me playing guitar, and Bob Dylan got me to care about the lyrics in music,” wrote Björn Afzelius in his biographies.
As one of Sweden's most popular musicians in the 1970s and 1980s, including with Mikael Wiehe in Hoola Bandoola Band, Afzelius became known for his socially critical lyrics and deep political commitment. Later came his heartfelt songs about love and reflections on everyday life.
His lyrics are as relevant now as they were then. With plenty of humor and delightful anecdotes that will have you laughing while giving historical perspective on the Nordic folk music movement, this concert promises a memorable experience.
The performance spans from the finest, most delicate pieces to songs that invite sing-alongs and shared laughter. Afzelius would have turned 75 in 2022, but he lost his battle with cancer at just 52 years old. This year marks 25 years since his passing.
Peter Wemö, a Swedish cultural performer who has made Norway his home and is a prominent keeper of Swedish and Nordic folk traditions, leads this tribute concert to the beloved artist.
Doors open at 5:00 PM. The concert is in two acts and will last until approximately 9:15 PM.
