Aleksander Kostopoulos is one of the most active musicians from northern Norway, best known as the drummer and percussionist for artists like Mari Boine, Adjagas, Moddi, Marthe Valle, ISÁK and the rock duo Pil & Bue. With his upcoming debut album Faleo, Kostopoulos presents himself for the first time as vocalist, songwriter and solo-artist.
When a drummer produces a solo album, one might expect a clear emphasis on the rhythmical, yet Kastopoulos is going more in the direction of atmospheric melodies by using samples and falsetto vocals. Sigur Rós, Bon Iver, Biosphere and DJ Shadow can be named as some of Kostopoulos' influences, his music being somewhere between ambient, indie, hiphop, pop and jazz.
With Faleo, Kostopoulos is also part of a growing trend to redefine what a singer/songwriter is: Seven of the nine songs on the album have been recorded live in the studio, with Kostopoulos managing samples, drums and vocals at the same time - just like he is going to do in his concert.
