Overview

This evening you will experience three modern masterpieces created by Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe og Alan Lucien Øyen. They have all redefined the art of dance with their unique style.

Jiří Kylián: Tiger Lily
Jiří Kylián has given the Norwegian audience everything from dancing in the hallways under the stage to six celebrated ballets in black and white. For the first time in Norway the Opera now shows Tiger Lily, which is performed with a string quartet playing on stage. The music spans from John Cage to Bach’s iconic piece The Goldberg Variations. The ballet is beautiful, clean and emotional—and typical Kylián.

William Forsythe: In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated
It is also the first time the Norwegian audience gets to experience In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated by William Forsythe. This production sent shock waves through the ballet world after its first performance at the Opera in Paris. It wasn’t long before both the choreographer and the dancers of the original cast received legendary status. Forsythe himself called these dancers wunderkinder—young dancers who could do it all. Now it’s the dancers of the Norwegian National Ballet’s turn to take on the challenge of this spectacular and pulsating ballet. Here you will get clean-cut and raw dance to electronic music by Thom Willems.

Alan Lucien Øyen: Timelapse
"Amazing" was a common praise of the world premiere of Alan Lucien Øyen’s Timelapse in 2015. Inspired by the Back to the Future-movies, the Norwegian National Ballet’s resident choreographer created a ballet about time, expectations and nostalgia. "He fills the stage with timeless and impossibly beautiful dancing..." wrote the newspaer Dagsavisen.

Performers: The Norwegian National Ballet, string quartet from the Opera Orchestra
