Anders Damås & The Acres of Corn
Anders Damås started his blues career in the mid-90s, together with Arild Nygård (Sidetrack) and Håkon Høye (Billy T Band, Joakim Tinderholt Band, solo). After moving to Oslo, he joined Håkon and started The HoneyTones together with bassist Tommy Dalbakk. The trio did countless concerts and club jobs in the early years, before they eventually went their separate ways. Anders later joined Myhrens Dam and eventually Big Rooney & The Doghouse and The Doghouse was several times used as a backing band for greats such as Lazy Lester, James Harman, RJ Mischo, Jostein Forsberg and Jenny Bohman on tours around Norway. Anders has also been used a lot as a substitute on drums for blues names such as Joakim Tinderholt, RC Finnegan, Bill Booth, Good Time Charlie and the duo Tommy Kristiansen and Eirik Bergene. Together with Eirik Bergene, Anders started the band Double Jeopardy with Borny Walberg and Jan Eirik Hallingskog. Fast forward to Covid 19, and Anders started recording what would become the EP Scarecrow & The Acres of Corn. On the first three released songs, Empress of The Blues, Riding With The Devil and A Traveller’s Story, Anders plays and sings all the instruments himself, but has had help with mixing and mastering. On the next song, Nightlife, he has brought in Arne Fjeld Rasmussen on harmonica. The rest is Anders himself. On the song, D’Guineafowl Gumbo, Anders has brought in his old guitar guru from the band Rock’n’Roll Roosters and Good Time Charlie, Steinar Karlsen and organ guru Magnus Østvand from, among others, Return. Again, a self-made bass, drums and vocals. Then came the title song, which is about putting a band together and Anders can now concentrate only on songwriting, drums and vocals. The rest is what eventually became his regular backing band The Acres of Corn. Acres of Corn currently consists of: Marius Fagervold: guitars, choir and a little lead vocals Thomas Kvaløsæter: guitars and choir Andreas Melgård: organ, piano and choir Bård Terje Larsen: bass This line-up released the song, The Groupie Song, last year under the name Anders Damås & The Acres of Corn. Both the EP and this song are available on all streaming services. There are a few copies of the single left on CD.
