Norwegian folk tunes and fabulations.

To Edvard Grieg, Norwegian folk music was one of his greatest sources of inspiration. This spring day at Troldhaugen, in Grieg’s home, Anne Hytta from Sauland draws on old tunes from Telemark County, weaving them together into new compositions for the Hardanger fiddle.

– In the tune fabulations, I take sounds and lines from tradition, but freeze them, shake them loose, and reshape them, reflecting them into the moment within a meditative musical framework. Listeners can lean back and wander into the listening, says Hytta.

Hytta began learning the Hardanger fiddle at the age of 11, from instructor Einar Løndal. Today she is a performer and composer, award-winning for her innovative approaches to the Norwegian folk tune traditions.
