Strinda String Orchestra was started in 1974 as Åsvang school's string orchestra. This year the orchestra celebrates 50 years and on that occasion would like to invite you to the anniversary! Orchestra members big and small are looking forward to playing a terrific anniversary concert, with contributions from former orchestra members Marianne Thorsen, Sigurd Imsen, Sigmund Tvete Vik and Fride Bakken Johansen.

Strinda String Orchestra was founded in its time by Oddvin Vatlestad, who then conducted 12 young people. Today, the SSO has three orchestras divided by age and skill with almost 100 playing members in total. Our youngest members play in the aspirant orchestra, conducted by our eminent Kristin Jæger. The main and chamber orchestras are conducted by the wonderful Jan Petter Hilstad. Children and young people from 9 to 14 years of age play in the main orchestra, and from the time they start secondary school they can join the chamber orchestra. In the aspirant and main orchestra, parents (and grandparents) also get to play, so you can see a mix of generations on stage.

In connection with the anniversary, the orchestra has been commissioned to compose a work by Tormod Tvete Vik, which will be performed for the first time at the concert.
