With backgrounds in legendary bands such as The Circle Jerks, Dag Nasty, T.S.O.L., and not least guitarist Brett W. Gurewitz who once founded Epitaph Records, Bad Religion can rightly be crowned as the kings of California punk rock.
Founded as early as 1980, the band stayed underground, constantly touring, releasing a steady stream of album releases, and slowly but surely building a reputation and fan base.
But in 1993, in the wake of grunge and alternative rock, it really took off when Bad Religion got their commercial breakthrough for their unmistakable melodic signature punk and the genre-defining album Recipe For Hate which landed the band an impressive 14th place on the Billboard charts.
