Overview

The new chamber opera Ballerina introduces us to the mind of the autistic teenager Malin. Malin's imaginary world, with the deep pond, the big bird, the circus horse, the farmyard tree Mr. Carl, the screeching gate Uncle Anton, and Mrs. Ludovica the millstone, is set to music in a powerful drama of a family in crisis. Malin's mother, Edith, a former ballerina, has been faced with the choice of taking Malin to an institution, leaving her there and living with the guilt, or bringing her back home. Edith chose the latter, which broke up a family. Synne Skouen is one of the most renowned composers in Norway today. The opera Ballerina is based on her father Arne Skouen's play by the same name from 1976. Ballerina Music: Synne Skouen Libretto: Oda Radoor, based on Arne Skouens play Musical rehearsing: Bjarne Sakshaug Director: Hilde Andersen The opera is presented in collaboration with Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.
