Bel Canto returns with new music!

In 2024, a new chapter opens in the history of one of the true pioneers of the electronica genre – the Tromsø duo Bel Canto.
Bel Canto's latest album "Radiant Green", which was released on April 26, 2024, literally seethes with creative and musical excess. It sounds fresh and new, while retrieving the unmistakable sound image from the band's remarkable musical treasury, which includes the mega-hit "Shimmering, Warm & Bright" and the Spellemannpris winner "Magic
Box”, to name a few.

22 years have passed since the last time Bel Canto had an album issue, but now the time has finally come. After a successful mini-tour, which culminated in a memorable concert at the Øya Festival in 2017, Drecker and Johansen started the creative process with the songs for what they
eventually understood that had to be their next album. The road has been long, and many strong names have contributed to the process, such as Geir Jenssen aka Biosphere and co-founder of the band, and Gilles Martin, who co-produced the band's first two albums, Erik Ljunggren, and Matias Tellez who has mixed the new the album.
One of several musical highlights on the new album is the song "Virginia", a rare duet with Sondre Lerche, who is a long-time friend of Anneli, and who has also worked closely with Tellez on several of his latest albums. The band's long-standing associate member Andreas Eriksen is on percussion, and on "Wave Without A Shore" they have been helped by Frida Fredrikke Waaler
Wærvågen on cello and Nils Petter Molvær on trumpet. The otherworldly beautiful saxophone solo on the French-language "Train Window Girl" is played by Steven Brown of Tuxedomoon.

About Bel Canto:
Bel Canto was formed in 1985 by vocalist Anneli Drecker, multi-instrumentalist Nils Johansen and Geir Jenssen. Together they created a soundscape, where atmospheric and melancholic tones met elements of folk music from different corners of the world. The sound was the start of the arctic electronica wave, which became large and influential far beyond the Norwegian borders in the 90s and 2000s.

Bel Canto's genre-crossing music and Anneli Drecker's vocals were quickly noticed in the wider world, and the group was one of the first in this country to get a contract with a record company outside Norway.

After the debut album "White-Out Conditions" and the sequel "Birds Of Passage", the trio became a duo, when Geir Jensen left to venture solo under the name Biosphere.
Anneli Drecker has over the years released a number of solo albums, and contributed on stage and on record with Röyksopp, A-ha and Ketil Bjørnstad. Nils Johansen has composed for TV and film, and was a member of the group Vajas.
