Thomas Dausgaard is a very busy conductor indeed, having begun his career in Denmark and Sweden, and now holding Chief Conductor posts both in the BBC Scottish and Seattle Symphonies at the same time.
Beethoven was persistent in trying to write an overture to his Fidelio opera, making four attempts in all. The third time he was almost too successful, in that the piece is too powerful to serve as an introduction to the stage work. But on its own it has become a staple of the repertoire.
Abduraimov, who won the 2009 London International Piano Competition, has recently recorded Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 on Decca. The London Times review states: ” ..his playing conveys depth and grandeur. He’s the master of all he surveys..”
