BFK | Canoa: A Shameful Memory (1976)

Canoa: A Shameful Memory is one of the most significant political films in recent Mexican history. It portrays real events which took place in the small town of San Miguel Canoa in Puebla, México in 1968, when a priest manipulated the local community into believing some travelling university employees were communist revolutionaries. The travellers were attacked by a mob. What led to this collective violence? Through documentary and horror, director Felipe Cazals draws parallells between what happened in Canoa and the mass killings of student protesters in Mexico city mere months later.
