28 October, Frogner Church: One of the great masterpieces of the Baroque era performed by Norway's oldest oratorio choir
Concert with Cæciliaforeningen, Norways oldest oratorio-choir and one of Oslos biggest amateur choirs.
Bach's Mass in B-Minor is a considered one of the masterpieces of the Baroque era. The mass, composed between 1748 and 1749, ended up being the last, large-scale composition by Bach before his death. Listening to it in its entirety leaves you with the feeling that this piece had built itself up in the composer during the whole span of his life. This makes it even more ironic that the masterpiece had to be pieced together from manuscripts hidden in drawers and cupboards.
The mass' grandeur and enormous scale makes it difficult to perform, but Cæciliaforeningen has over 90 singer on stage, enough vocal power to do the piece justice.
