A historical breath from the primitive beginning, which wakens and unfolds through song and dance.
Envisage the dark and primitive Middle Ages, which are exposed and raw – a darkness the light needs in order to emerge. The light is neither blinding nor enlightening.
Humanity breathes in this light, we take a breath, hold on to it, let it make its way through our body before it emerges in another form.
A historical breath that reconciles the contrasts of history and the present, between the dreams and voices of our ancestors and our modern age.
This old breath transforms the body into an altar where history, the present, culture and nature become interweaved, and beguile and shock us through the performance.
In Soufflette, the French choreographer François Chaignaud takes us on a journey across centuries. The body's transformation and movement are explored in a performance featuring collective song, scenography, costumes and dance. The music is written by Jostein Gundersen.
