Overview

Based on refugees' own accounts Carte Blanche examines problems associated with asylum and human perceptions such as taste, sensuality and longing. Refugees are often depicted as masses of people arriving in large groups. However, each individual asylum seeker makes a journey full of personal perceptions, choices, experiences, memories and privations. Even though the journey takes place in the company of others, many are also very much alone with the responsibility for themselves and their secrets. These are the individual transit stories that Carte Blanche dare to let themselves be captivated by in this world premiere. The choreographer is Hooman Sharifi, director of Carte Blanche, Norway's national company for contemporary dance, who himself came to Norway from Iran alone as a young asylum seeker in 1988. He is particularly interested in the artistic expression that may arise when dance, theatre and visual art meet. Sharifi's vocabulary of movement is physically challenging, intense and powerful, examining the deeper emotions lurking behind power, political systems and violence.
