Every day at 6:00 PM, the Trondheim Christmas Market fills with beautiful singing and festive cheer as choirs from across the region take the stage at Torvet. Experience everything from traditional Christmas carols to fresh and modern choral music – the perfect accompaniment to a cup of mulled wine and some holiday shopping. Stop by and let yourself be carried into the Christmas spirit with genuine choral harmonies at the heart of the city.

This evening, we welcome Embla, conducted by Hanne Bæverfjord.

Embla is a women’s choir based in Trondheim, consisting of 25 singers. The choir was founded in 1994 by Norunn Illevold Giske, who conducted it herself until the summer of 2020, when she stepped down at the age of 85. Giske built a strong musical foundation characterized by a distinct and refined sound, focusing on vocal overtones and harmonies where individual voices enhance one another.

Today, the choir is led by conductor Marit Tøndel Bodsberg, but for the Christmas Market concert, Embla will be conducted by Hanne Bæverfjord. In 2024, Embla released the Christmas album Glædelig jul, which received excellent reviews in the press. During their concert at the Christmas Market, the audience will be treated to selected pieces from the album – performed with Embla’s signature warmth and precision.
