About the performance:

Along the Mediterranean coast, from Cairo to Beirut, there were early nineteenth-century iconic female voices from the radio. On every street corner, from all the car stereos, the Arabic song came to the fore, and the great diva Oum Kalthoum was especially ubiquitous. Her voice, trembling with low-pitched intensity, massed Persian poetry with melodies characteristic of the Tarabian style in which she excelled.

The performance Oüm is a tribute to Oum Kalthoum, and the spectrum of emotions she could evoke - from the weaving to the violent. 6 dancers and 2 musicians cross stylistic barriers, in a poetic and musical cry for life, for the intoxication of happiness over the present moment, and in a way, for transcendence.
