Commemoration: The November Pogrom on November 9th

Get tickets here
The Jewish Community of Trondheim and the Jewish Museum Trondheim invite you to a memorial service and lecture on November 9. This year marks 87 years since the November Pogrom in Germany, a nationwide violent persecution of Jews on the night between November 9 and 10, 1938, when Jews and Jewish property were targeted for systematic acts of violence and attacks – also known as “Kristallnacht”.

There will be a memorial service at the Cissi Klein statue on Museumsplass at 5:45 p.m., before we go to the synagogue, where Dag Steinfeld will present his new book, The Man Who Went Free. This will be followed by a conversation between Steinfeld and John Arne Moen, chairman of the board of the Jewish Community of Trondheim.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Among all the trials after the liberation, few created a greater stir than the case against Police Inspector Knut Rød, the man who organized the deportation of Norwegian Jews to Auschwitz. Yet he was acquitted in 1948. How was that possible? Were Jews simply less important than other Norwegians?
Dag Steinfeld is a well-known Norwegian lawyer. After he ended his legal career, he devoted much of his time to focusing on human rights, culture and history. In 2023, he published Fathers and Sons, a personal account of his Jewish family. In addition to lectures, Steinfeld will be interviewed by John Arne Moen, an experienced media and communications manager. He is also chairman of the board of the Jewish Community in Trondheim.
