Journalist and author Sidsel Wold is probably best known as an Israel expert and Middle East correspondent for NRK. As a child, Sidsel dreamed of becoming an Indian or a Jew, and at the age of 19, Wold went to a kibbutz where she lived for over two years. In the early 1980s, she was involved in both MIFF (With Israel for Peace) and NORKIV (Norwegian Kibbutz Friends). But as time went by, her view of Israel changed.
On Saturday, February 22, Sidsel Wold will come to the Studentersamfundet to tell her own stories about the young country of Israel. What is really happening inside the country? How is it that the socialist pioneer state from 1948 now has its most nationalistic government ever? How did Netanyahu come to power? What internal conflicts and divisions have characterized the country? Where does the hatred against the Palestinians come from? What drives Israel to continue the genocide of the Palestinians, as well as continue its occupation of Palestinian territories? And what does the future of the country and Netanyahu look like?
Society meeting: Sidsel Wold - a report on Israel, will address these very questions, in the hope of gaining a greater understanding of the country, the unrest in the Middle East, the genocide in Gaza, and more.
Doors open at 17:45. Entrance through the main entrance. The event is free for members, and 50 NOK for non-members. Tickets are purchased at the door.
The meeting will be streamed on the Society's YouTube channel. The meeting will also be uploaded in its entirety to the YouTube channel afterwards: https://www.youtube.com/@sudentersamfundetitrondhj1945.
