Course in contemporary dance for Adults - fall 2024
Tuesdays at 20:00-21:30 at DansiT studio, Strandveien 33, Trondheim
15 weeks course starting from 20.8.2024 - 10.12.2024 (15 weeks, without week 45 and 46)

The course will be shared by dance artists Anna Thu Schmidt and Karoline Ellingsen Wheeler to offer a diverse approach to contemporary dance. Classes are taught in English and Norwegian and suitable for new beginners as well as people with movement experience.

Part 1: Classes with Anna Thu Schmidt (week 34-41)
The classes offer practice in contemporary dance through dance improvisation, technical exercises, floor work, movement phrases, composition tasks, and working with choreography. Central in the course is to create body awareness, discover your own movements, and expand your movement vocabulary. But most importantly to enjoy dancing!

Bio: Anna Thu Schmidt is a dance artist with a focus on dance improvisation, interdisciplinary projects, site-specific work and integrated dance. She holds a B.A. in Dance in Education from ArtEZ (NL) and an M.A. in Dance Studies from NTNU. Besides Contemporary Dance for Adults Anna also runs ImproDans Trondheim and started up PRAXIS Trondheim and Ecstatic Dance in Trondheim.

Part 2: Karoline Ellingsen Wheeler (week 42-50)
The class will focus on floorwork where a consistent theme will be movement in the room. We will work on release - when do I release and when do I activate the muscles, use of momentum to generate flow and dynamics in the movement. Along the way, we will explore several aspects from floor to standing, play with small combinations and, if there is interest in it, introduction to simple acrobatic elements.

Karoline has a BA in dance with PPU from the University of Stavanger, as well as one year of pre-study in dance from Spin Off in Oslo. Runs Kompani Morell, a performing arts company with a focus on children and young people and is part of the Praxis Trondheim team, which offers a space to exchange practices between performing artists and other people interested in movement. She has extensive teaching experience from both children/young people to professionals and works permanently for the Culture School in Trondheim as well as freelance for, among other things. The Academy of Arts in Oslo. Currently performing in a self-produced performance, FORELSKA! of Kompani Morell who will be on their fourth DKS tour in autumn 24, as well as performing for Cirka Teater since 2021.
