On Saturday, March 7, in collaboration with Rive Gauche, we will be showing Krzysztof Kieślowski's beautiful and enigmatic film The Double Life of Véronique. It is about two women who never meet, but who nevertheless share a mysterious connection.
The Polish singer Weronika and the French music teacher Véronique live parallel lives – they are similar in every way, but are unaware of each other's existence. When death overtakes one of them, the other feels an inexplicable sadness, as if she has lost a part of herself.
The film explores themes such as identity, destiny and intuition, with an atmosphere that is both dreamlike and deeply moving. Irène Jacob plays both roles with warmth and mystery. The camerawork of photographer Slawomir Idziak transforms everyday moments into pure poetry, and it is all enhanced by Zbigniew Preisner's beautiful music.
The Double Life of Véronique is a film that seduces more than it explains. It is a sensual and hypnotic experience that reminds us that we may not be as alone in the world as we think.
The film has an age limit of 9 years.
After the film, we move across the Bybroa to Rive Gauche on Bakklandet. There, a delicious meal inspired by the film is served.
You can also see the film without food for the regular ticket price (or clip card/festival pass), these tickets will be released in February.
Welcome!
