Born in Kingston in the late 1970s, dancehall is closely tied to its fast, electronic music style – a modern, energetic evolution of reggae. Today, dancehall has influenced modern dance and pop culture across the globe.

What happens when people meet without words – just through rhythm, music, and movement? Dansheim – Trondheim’s House of Dance is a collaboration between 14 dance groups and clubs who share one passion: getting more people to dance together. Not to perform – but to experience, laugh, connect, and feel truly present.

We’re working to lift dance up as what it has always been – a vital part of our culture, identity, and well-being. Together, we want to give children, youth, and adults the chance to experience the joy of social dancing, and rediscover the value of simply being physically present with others – no screens, no filters.

Dance is more than movement. It’s interaction, communication, and relationship-building. Through dance, we learn about bodies, boundaries, and trust. We learn how to be together – for real. In a time when so much happens online and from a distance, we believe in the power of dancing side by side.
