Vivaldi on the Hardanger Fiddle.
In the mediaeval hall Håkonshallen Ragnhild Hemsing's most recent project is performed for the first time: Vivaldi's evergreen Four Seasons in the world of Norwegian folk music.
'I love diving deep into the material and exploring a new soundscape in the music. The Hardanger fiddle is Norway's baroque instrument, and in this concert we draw out some of the similarities between Vivaldi's baroque melodies and Norwegian folk music,' says Ragnhild Hemsing.
This year's Artist in Residence, violinist and Hardanger fiddler, is joined by Barokkanerne under the artistic leadership of lutenist Jadran Duncumb.
In addition to the new arrangement of the Four Seasons for Hardanger fiddle and baroque ensemble, the programme includes traditional folk tunes from Valdres and a new fantasia by the Norwegian composer Agnes Pettersen.
