Egge museum

Experience Living History in Fun and Playful Surroundings!

A Journey Back to the 1800s
Summer at Egge Museum offers a unique experience in a historic setting. Join us for a journey back to the 1800s on a farm with several authentic buildings, each with its own function. Kids will love meeting farm animals like sheep, pigs, and chickens. Throughout the summer, we host exciting activities for the whole family in the farmyard, and there are larger events to look forward to as well. When the rain pours down, you can find shelter and coziness in the delightful café in the visitor center, where you'll find reading materials, games, and a dedicated play area. The visitor center is wheelchair and stroller accessible, ensuring everyone can enjoy the experience.

Activity days in 2024
In 2024, we have exciting events, including Midsummer, Viking Day with Viking activities, colorful workshops in the café, plant dyeing of yarn, Children's Days, and a special program during the National Rifle Championships from July 20-25.

Animals at the Museum
The animals at the museum are a vital part of the experience. We have a diverse range, including heritage sheep (Stone Age sheep), chickens, pigs, and rabbits. These animals create an authentic atmosphere and a living history experience. During the summer season, Shetland ponies and Dala sheep also help us manage the cultural landscape by grazing on areas with burial mounds and other historical sites.

We also offer several exciting exhibitions. Explore the exhibition "Steinkjer - Portraits of a City," where you can experience a street from old Steinkjer as it looked in the early 1900s. You'll also find a nostalgic children's general store where kids can play shop. Another exhibition, "TRACTOR," takes you through the importance and development of tractors in agriculture. This exhibition includes a play area that will delight tractor enthusiasts of all ages. Join us for the Tractor Scavenger Hunt too.

Our summer exhibition for 2024, "Up from the Ground - Archaeological Finds in the Egge Area," showcases discoveries from our local area.

This year, we offer guided tours included in the entrance fee:
Every Saturday and Sunday at 13:00, join a cultural history walk on Eggevammen (meet in the farmyard).
Every Thursday at 13:00 from 27.June to  1.August , join an archaeological walk starting at Egge Church.

Egge Church and Burial Mounds
Don't miss a visit to Egge Church, open every Sunday during the summer season. Explore the burial mounds on Eggevammen, which have an exciting history and contain incredible finds. You can also experience the remnants of Egge Farm, a chieftain's seat with a thousand-year history. The farm features a grand manor garden with a fantastic view of the town. Explore Sigrid's Path, named after the Viking woman Sigrid, taking you through historic burial mounds down to the open-air museum.
