Et takkebrev til Saddam // Byscenen
What do you think when the worst thing you've experienced may have given you a better life? IN
In 1988, Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein decided to put an end to the Kurds' desire for independence. This led him to commit a genocide that killed hundreds of thousands of people and sent hundreds of thousands more fleeing. Many left behind everything they had, if they had anything at all after many years of war. Two of those who fled Kurdistan in the hope of a better life were Izzat and Ramzia Mehidi, together with their five children.
As if the transition from Kurdistan to Mysen in Østfold wasn't big enough, they now also have to live with the fact that the result of their escape would be a son who makes jokes about it. Both to remember what happened, and also to process it.
Et Takkebrev Til Saddam is Galvan's first solo show. In this show, he deals with the conflicting feelings of both hating what has happened and at the same time being grateful for the opportunities that came out of it. Galvan Mehidi has had a long career in Norwegian media both as a director, actor and presenter. Just a few years ago, he took the step into standup and has quickly become one of the most active comedians on the Norwegian standup scene.
