Visual artist Solveig Birna Stefansdottir is exhibiting horse paintings at the Feminist House in Trondheim. Solveig was born and raised in Iceland and moved to Trondheim in 1992. She studied art at the Icelandic Academy of Fine Arts and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim. She also has an art education from NTNU and studied art therapy at OsloMet.
About themes and motifs, Solveig says:
Horses have an ability to show people home to themselves where their heart beats.
The horse has been a source of inspiration in my artistic practice and this can partly be traced back to my roots. I grew up on a farm with horses in Northwest Iceland where closeness to nature and the cycles of the seasons characterized my life. I remember myself as a little girl bent over the drawing materials on my mother's kitchen floor where I was busy drawing horses. I still find it fun to draw and paint horses. It lifts my spirits and gives me peace of mind.
On this occasion, I am showing new horse paintings that refer to the unique gaits of the Icelandic horse. The fact that the horse was an important means of transportation on the island, often in rough terrain, has led to the breeding of riding horses with soft and powerful movement patterns such as tölt. The pictures are painted with acrylic on canvas and form a series.
Welcome to the exhibition!
Opening Saturday 10. jaunar at 12.
Solveig will also be present on the next Saturdays in January, from 12-14. In addition, you can see the exhibition on Wednesdays between 10 and 14, and at events at the house.
