On December 17TH, the Museum of Archaeology opens two new exhibitions.
The polar bear from Finnøy has a new in the museum, and together with the story about how it was found, we tell a little bit about the disappearance of the ice, the myths of the polar bears and the polar bear's many names.
We also open the exhibition "In the beginning". Here we tell you about creation myths from all over the world.
The exhibition is beautifully decorated with pictures painted by Gunn Lisbeth Gaarden.
Learn about how cultures from different corners of the globe have myths about how the world came about. Here are Yggdrasil and Norse myths, creation myths from ancient Egypt, the Mayan history of origin and a Sami story. To mention a few.
From the myths we have made a door to the exhibition "Meet the Man" which we opened in 2016. Here you can still see the skeleton of "Vistegutten", the drowned Viking and learn the story of several of those who lived in Rogaland before us.
There is FREE ENTRY throughout this day and at. 14 o'clock, there is a story about "The Crow and the Daylight" for the children.
We also welcome you to visit our newly refurbished cafe. We sell both sandwiches, cakes and also Christmas porridge in the cafe.
And in the museum shop you can find nice christmas presents.
