Fantastic banners: School banners from 1886 to 2016

The exhibition ‘Fantastic banners’ shows between 40 and 50 school banners from Oslo from the years 1886 to 2016. Like the children's parade on 17 May, the school banners are a distinctly Norwegian phenomenon. Every year, the Royal Family stands on the palace balcony to greet the children's parade - and the school banners are lowered in greeting to the King and the Royal Family.

The exhibition shows how the flags have evolved in design, symbolism and choice of motif - from nation-building and clear references to 1814 and 1905 to diversity, justice and inclusion.

The exhibition is part of the programme at Dronning Sonja KunstStall, and is included in the ticket together with ‘Royal Photographers’.
