The word comes from West African culture and is known from the song Fanga Alafia, which is used to welcome people with open arms. The dance originates from Sierra Leone and Liberia, and was traditionally used in ceremonies to honour both the earth and the sky. Today, Fanga is a symbol of unity, community, and the power of doing things together.
