Fredrikstad Animation Festival is the leading animated film festival in the Nordic region and presents a wide range of animated films with a focus on the Nordic-Baltic animation scene. The festival is a long-standing tradition in Norway, dating back to 1994. The festival has a diverse programme of films, seminars and other events in the theme of animation.
The main programme of the festival is the Nordic-Baltic film competition, which contains short films, student films, commissioned films, and feature-length films. In addition to the competition, the festival highlights the international animation scene, through other short film programmes including; Best of International Shorts, Midnight Madness at Tæps, and Abstract at Hoi Polloi. The main venue for the festival is the Fredrikstad Cinema with other seminars and events spread out throughout the city.
The festival is geared to film lovers of all ages, with a strong focus on young people. There are workshops, free activities and a Family Day on Sunday.
The festival is a professional arena for the animation industry as well as an important event for students and educational institutions within animation, graphic design and digital media production. Each year, top animation industry professionals hold seminars and lectures, and the festival has previously hosted guests from famous studios such as Pixar, Disney and Aardman.
