Pure melodiousness and velvety sounds
Conductor: Eivind Aadland
Cello: Amalie Stalheim
Program
Albert Schnelzer: Through the Eye of the Pegasus
Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1
Charles Gounod: Faust ballet music
Richard Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier suite
About the concert
The shooting star Amalie Stalheim shares the stage with our old friend, former chief conductor Eivind Aadland, in a concert that embraces you in a magnificent tonal harmonic world.
Stalheim's interpretation of Haydn's audience favorite of a cello concerto has been described as unforgettable. Her simultaneous expressiveness and elegance suit this classic concert very well.
Gounod's ballet music from Faust is a pleasure from beginning to end and Strauss's suite from Der Rosenkavalier overflows with pomp and splendor and waltz rhythms from Vienna's golden era. While the opening work, Through the Eye of the Pegasus, is clearly inspired by film music and the great romantic orchestral tradition and sets the tone well for the evening.
