Immanuel Wilkins Quartet

Immanuel Wilkins Quartet play at Victoria, Nasjonal jazzscene.

Already with his debut album Omega on Blue Note in 2020, it was clear that Immanuel Wilkins was a new saxophone voice with great talent! Forward-thinking, beautiful and mature jazz, and that from a young man of 22! Omega received well-deserved praise when it was released, and was also named the best jazz album of the year by the New York Times.

The Immanuel Wilkins Quartet is fully formed after many formative years together. And in this active and touring ‘working’ band, leader Wilkins has had the opportunity to continue his development both as a composer and arranger. His interest and passion for jazz music and history has also made him a sought-after musician, and he has played with Jason Moran, Kenny Barron, Wynton Marsalis, Solange and Joel Ross. In addition, he regularly holds masterclasses at Yale, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Basel Jazz Schule.

The band followed this up with the more spiritual The 7th Hand, where the jazz roots stretch further back in time with elements of both gospel and African rhythms. The music is both warm and personal. This disc also topped a number of lists when the jazz year 2022 was to be summarised. The Immanuel Wilkins Quartet has played to sold-out crowds all over the United States and did a small European tour last year, including a visit to Bergen Jazzforum. Now it's finally Oslo's turn - this is going to be hot!
