Want to learn more about Henrik Ibsen’s childhood in Skien?
Join the Ibsen Walk – In the Footsteps of Ibsen!
Here you get to see where little Henrik lived and how the family enjoyed a lavish upper-class lifestyle before his father, Knud Ibsen, went bankrupt.
We share various memories Henrik himself wrote down from his childhood, and describe what he was like as a young boy in Skien until he left home at the age of 15.
The tour lasts about 45–60 minutes. We start at the Ibsen House in Brekkeparken and walk down the “Ibsen Steps” toward the bust of Ibsen at Sorrento Square in Snipetorpgata and the city of Skien.
If you're unable to use stairs, you can meet us at the town square (Handelstorget) near Arkaden. Please remember to bring your pre-purchased ticket and send us a message to let us know you’ll be joining us there. When you buy your ticket, you’ll get a prompt asking where you’ll meet us.
The final part of the tour is a bit steep, going up Snipetorpgata via Tomtegata and ending back at the Brekkeparken Café. The view over Skien at the top is worth it! At Brekkeparken Café, you can enjoy the scenery with delicious food and drinks
