The Svein Olav Herstad trio has released four albums with its current line-up. Inventio (2007), Live in Cape Town (2013), The Ballad Book (2017) and Scizo (2021). Besides pianist Herstad, the trio consists of Magne Thormodsæter on double bass and Håkon Mjåset Johansen on drums.The albums are very varied in their artistic expression, yet the trio has some consistent qualities; a deep respect and knowledge of the tradition, while at the same time experimenting with the interaction parameters.The synergy between Herstad's ability to convey world-class phrasing and a rhythm section that is exceptionally coordinated and driving makes this trio something very special.
