Júníus Meyvant

18 February, John Dee: Soulful Icelandic folk

Júníus Meyvant is a soulful and charming folk-artist from Iceland. Sometimes called Iceland's answer to Bon Iver, Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson started his career under the pseudonym Júníus Meyvant in 2014 after a musical and religious experience in Iceland's wild nature, which also clearly influences his melodious and freaky folk-pop.

His debut-single "Color Decay" from 2014 was followed by a successful tour of Europe and the USA, with his first album Floating Harmonies in 2016. The follow-up record Across the Border was produced by Ásgeir's Guðmundur Kristinn Jónsson. On this album, Júníus' unique voice is supported by string instruments and a brass ensemble.
