‘What happens when talented Norwegian string players perform with international stars? A musical meeting of equals.’
Thus began a Norwegian daily paper’s rave review of last year’s Bergen International Festival encounter between the brilliant Dutch violinist Janine Jansen and young Norwegian instrumentalists. The reviewer had to wipe back tears in the process.
Now Janine Jansen is back in Troldsalen with her Stradivarius on loan from Dextra Musica, leading an elite team of young Norwegian and Swedish string players. She is known not only for beautiful sound and passion – she is also recognised as a particularly attentive listening artist. These qualities always benefit those who perform alongside her.
With her young colleagues she starts the concert with ‘sunshine composer’ Moritz Moszkowski’s dramatic and melodious Suite for Two Violins and Piano. In his day he was considered Chopin’s natural successor, but he is rarely performed today. The programme also includes Shostakovich’s popular mournful Quartet and Tschaikovsky’s Sextet Souvenir de Florence, a fond accolade to the city and country that the composer loved.
In collaboration with Crescendo and Dextra Musica.
