High-end post-apocalyptic dance theater. VIRUS is a creepy ethnic view of popular culture's vision of the future. We are in the near future where things have gone wrong. In a small remote bunkers there is the source of misery: a machine that drives the world with cruel viruses. A small team views the possibility of correcting the error and restarting the world. An android rents into a dangerous mission, but it soon turns out that even machine-minded brains can have both self-will, conscience and, not least, a charming being.
JO STRØMGREN KOMPANI has constantly renewed itself through an extreme variety of genres, from theater to large-scale dance performances, from Ibsen to newly written drama, from film productions to provocative documentaryism and populist entertainment. Now, the company chooses to return to a formula that has lasted almost ten years in hibernation: the kaudervelske melodrama. The blend of cunning storytelling, incomprehensible language and big doses of dance is to many of the company's signature and backbone, fortified through the company's tours in nearly 60 countries. The practitioners in the VIRUS communicate with incomprehensible speech. For those who have grown up with Chewbacca, it should be easy to understand, at least associatively.
"They move like a body, but sneak around, above and below each other, but remain a whole [...] an absolutely beautiful sequence."
