Captivating and nostalgic from a violinist in remarkable development.
The Strad was effusive in praise of the young Norwegian-Swedish violinist: ‘His delicate shaping, clarity of tone and dynamic control were a joy to hear.’
Still in his teens, he has already won nine international competitions and was accepted into the Crescendo programme in 2017, with Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes and Gidon Kremer as mentors. He will make his mark on the 2018 Bergen International Festival with them in several concerts (pp. 73, 77, 79). This is his first Bergen Festival appearance, preceding his Carnegie Hall debut and performances with major orchestras.
He is accompanied by pianist Gunnar Flagstad, who is known for his skill in bringing composers’ intentions to the forefront. In Ole Bull’s own concert venue on the island of Lysøen the duo will perform Arvo Pärt’s captivating Fratres, nostalgic excerpts from Sibelius’s pieces for violin and piano, and finally Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata, culminating in an optimistic fortissimo.
