In her works, the Norwegian painter Karen Ingeborg Bye (b. 1954) thematises nature and landscapes both as places for refuge and as a site for natural disasters. Several of the motifs on display in the exhibition Etterlandsap ('after-landscapes') are taken from recent news, and present landscapes that are struck by war, draught, floods and wildfires.
These landscapes are contrasted to others that appear almost untouched or marked by actions that we associate with leisure and vacation. These images include objects such as rowboats, a diving board or a bathing jetty. The absence of humans in Bye's works make the landscapes stand out with their own stories to tell.
The exhibition consists of a handful av monumental works that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. In addition, series of smaller works are also on display.
