Karin Krog with John Surman and The Valhallas

KARIN KROG WITH JOHN SURMAN AND THE VALHALLAS JAZZ: TEA WITH THELONIOUS MONK Karin Krog, vocals, John Surman, sax, Erlend Slettevold, piano, Terje Gewelt, bass, Tom Olstad, drums. On the evening of April 15, 1966, Karin Krog sat next to Thelonious Monk with a cup of tea at Continental and listened to him being interviewed by the Norwegian broadcaster NRK. He had just played an incredible concert at the University's auditorium, and Karin promised herself that one day she would try to sing some of his beautiful compositions. It took her over fifty years to accomplish this, and in 2020, in collaboration with John Surman, she created a project that included compositions by Thelonious Monk. The concert features Monk's compositions in a new light, arranged by Surman. During the performance, Krog and Surman will share some of the stories from Monk's musical life. Most performances of Monk's music are usually instrumental, but here, Karin will sing relatively rarely heard lyrics to some of his most famous compositions.
