Mozart wrote this B-dur quartett in 1784. The first rate, in 6/8-part beat, where the main melody is very triad-based over tonika and dominant accords, which can give associations to how melodies with hunting horns are built up traditionally. Hence, the name Huntingquartet, on this work. Even though in Ålesund we have not played this quartet before, is this one of Mozarts most played quartets, and if music works in a bunch of movies (Star Trek, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Adventures of Huck Finn etc.)
Robert Schumann wrote his piano quintet in 1842, with clock performance the year after. This work was revolutionary in its instrumentation and has its musical character on piano quintet in the romantic era and has stood as one of Schummans finest work and one of the most central chamber music works of the 18th century. Although the second movement has character of a mourning march, this is a contrast to the other movements which are generally exuberant and extroverted. Schumann wrote his work intensly over just a few weeks, and was dedicated as a declaration of love to his wife, the piano virtuoso Clara Schumann.
