Overview

KORK's Czech chief conductor invites to a concert with three compatriots on the program. The orchestra's new solo oboist, Marie Tetzlaff is soloist in Bohuslav Martinů's oboe concerto.

Martinů has a large production, from several operas, symphonic music to chamber music, and was one of the first composers, inspired by 20th century Paris, to use jazz in his compositions. The oboe concerto from 1955, written relatively late in the composer's life, is a gem of a musical and virtuoso work. Popelka frames the oboe concerto with music by two great composers. Dvořák's 8th Symphony is one of his most played masterpieces, while music by Leoš Janáček is rarely played in the Great Studio. Janáček is also one of the Czech Republic's greats, including several operas, and here a symphonic fantasy from one of them.
