Life is a Dream

Overview

A formidable international co-production exploring the alchemical synergy of sound, motion and imagery.
Take an award-winning Danish choreographer (Kim Brandstrup) and ask him to create a modern reimagining of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s 17th century play Life is a Dream. Let some of the world’s finest dancers from UK contemporary dance company Rambert perform it, set to music by Polish composer Witold Lutosławski played by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Then, transform the space into a dreamlike world, with projections by US filmmakers the Quay Brothers, taking the audience from bare rooms to urban cityscapes, magical gardens and baroque theatres. What do you get? Well, a Nordic premiere and a festival closing performance you are likely to remember.
‘What if our ability to create and enjoy illusion is what really makes us human?’
