Nobody does contemporary repertoire quite like the London Sinfonietta.
Composers including Arvo Pärt, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Philip Glass, Iannis Xenakis, Kaija Saariaho, György Ligeti and Steve Reich have all written works for the ensemble. Together with Reich they also had a very successful performance at the 2015 Bergen International Festival.
At this concert the London Sinfonietta perform Kaija Saariaho's violin concerto Graal Théâtre. The Finnish composer is the 2017 Festival Composer and Artist in Residence, and her music will be performed at a number of events. The violin concerto will be brought to life by new stage direction from Aleksi Barrière, who was commissioned especially for this concert. The soloist is Peter Herresthal, known for his intepretations of contemporary concertos with orchestras and ensembles worldwide.
The programme also includes a world premiere of a work written by Norwegian composer Eivind Buene. The work will be performed by young soloists Guro Kleven Hagen, Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad and Kian Soltani, all of whom have become favourites among the Festival audience, together with the London Sinfonietta.
The concert is part of the Norwegian Society of Composers' centenary celebrations.
More works will be added to the concert programme.
