"Love makes the difference" by Hilde Marie Thrana

This lecture will be about what love means both as a primordial force in human biology, as a basic ethical value in aid work and as action in practice.
She will talk about different dimensions of love and that it has probably been a force in human history since the origin of man. At the same time, love has been expressed in different ways, both as community, friendship, as charity and not least as passion. She will show examples from her own research where experiences from youth, parents and social workers show that love is an effective force for change and that love still has a strong value anchor among social workers. The presentation ends by asking what place should love have in the further development of aid services, and is love a force that we should demonstrate to a much greater extent in both church work and other aid work?

Hilde Marie Thrana is a professor at the Department of Social Work at NTNU, and has written a doctorate on love in social work, and has also recently published the book; The Ethics of Love. https://www.universitetsforlaget.no/kjaerlighetens-etikk
She also has a background in the field of child welfare and outreach work, among other things, and has particularly worked in research on topics such as exclusion, children and young people's participation and art in social work in addition to love.
