Luke Elliot - The Big Wind
Album release: May 8, 2020
Luke Elliot delivers amazing songs that gems on a string on his new album "The Big Wind", and has since captivated the audience with his beautiful performances with an extreme presence. The melancholy American is often compared to big names like Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Waits and Bob Dylan - and rightly so. The debut album "Dressed for the Occasion" took us by storm, and on May 8th the long-awaited second album "The Big Wind" finally arrives.
The artist originating in New Jersey delivers a bold and immediate album that could set the perfect mood for a noir film as the production is cinematic, modern and elegant, yet playful. The ten tracks on the album stand out from their predecessor and show us an artist with deeper lyrics that has grown more mature lately.
On this album, Luke Elliot has been inspired by big, catastrophic storms. He has especially been fascinated by Ireland's notorious gale-storm in 1839, which has been immortalized in poetry and prose under the title "The Night Of The Big Wind". Storms can also occur in private life, and in the writing process Luke Elliot found himself in a maelstrom of events both on a personal and professional level and "The Big Wind" is a result of this stormy time.
“The songs are about being able to build a stable life. When I wrote them I had nothing permanent and permanent in my life. But then I met the woman who is my wife today, cleaned up everything messed up and thrown around to complete this record, ”Luke says. "Everyone has to grow up once".
The list of icons Luke Elliot has been compared to within roots, people and rock is long, and includes greats like Hank Williams, Big Joe Turner, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Costello, Elmore James, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave . His cinematic musicality is elegant and offers deep thoughts and emotions through poetic texts with good stories, conveyed by a sore and close vocals.
This second album has a lot to live up to. The first album "Dressed for the Occasion" made great success, especially here in Norway, and a lot has happened since then; Luke Elliot has toured continuously throughout the world with sold out concerts in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany and Australia. An overall Norwegian press paid tribute to the artist with reviews such as "An immediate classic" (6/6 in Dagbladet). He has visited Lindmo, been listed on radio with several singles, collaborated with the Swedish clothing brand Oscar Jacobson, toured with Madrugada in Europe and warmed up for Bjørns Eidsvåg in the Oslo Spectrum. The song "Somebody's Man", a duet with Sivert Høyem, was the first single from the forthcoming album and was 17 weeks on NRK P1.
Now that the storms in Luke Elliot's life have settled after the recording of "The Big Wind," he balances the new family life with life on the road. “I am grateful that I finally settled things. I want to be a supportive and solid husband and father while touring as much as possible. In many ways, I am grateful for the progress my life has had in the past. ” A turbulent time is over and worked on, and the result "The Big Wind" is released on May 8th!
