Magnolia Reds dynamic and varied musical universe is being described as both recognisable and different at the same time, rooted in the electric end of the wide "Americana"-landscape. The four (now five) members from Sunnmøre have since the beginning of January 2017 targeted built the band up step by step, and 2020 marks a milestone in Magnolia Reds history with the release of their debutalbum Ancient River, a collection of ten original songs that compared to earlier releases is recorded at Ocean Sound Recordings on Giske.
"With their strong guitar based music, Magnolia Red, have in fact found their niche in the Norwegian Americana-landscape."
"A band that grew into their shoes really fast! Norway's Magnolia Red have released a real tresaure. Americana, alt-country/rock done so well, it sounds like it ain't their first rodeo."
"Suddenly! When we can say that we have space for a new Midnight Choir, Magnolia Red shows up from Ålesund with the album Ancient River."
"...And they're from Norway. Anything tagged as Americana and based in Noway is a winner. This is no expection. Something special right here."
We are talking about a quartet from Vestlandet that playes music as if they where from the West Coast. And, they are, just from a different continent. Their debutalbum was recorded in Ocean Sound Recordings, and it sounds fabulous. The guys plays like old pros, and they sound like Dire Straits in one moment, and like Tom Petty the next, and their song reminds me about Springsteen. And when I also get a feeling that The Band really is a band (!) they have listened to alot, you realise this is good stuff. If you are going to listen to a couple of songs before you buy their record, then "Signs That Passed, "Mountains of the North" and the title track will give you a great pointer to what you can expect.
