Marina Kan Selvik

Overview

Festival debut for this Norwegian-Russian pianist
Marina Kan Selvik was seven years old the first time she appeared as a soloist with a symphony orchestra. Now this Russian-born pianist, referred to by Norwegian radio as 'a talent of international calibre', is to make her Bergen International Festival solo debut. In Harald Sæverud's quirky home she performs several of his works alongside music by Handel, Schubert, Liszt and Stravinsky.
She graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow with distinction in all subjects, and took her master degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She was the first Norwegian pianist to win the Nordic Piano Competition in Malmø, and she has won the prestigious Marmortaste Prize in Munich.
Marina Kan Selvik has appeared in recital and performed with orchestras in over twenty countries, including France, Japan, Armenia, Portugal and Italy. In Norway she has appeared with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and KORK, and has performed for HM Queen Sonja at Troldhaugen. Her recently released album features works by Brahms and Robert and Clara Schumann.
