Overview

The geographical area of the yoik extends over the entire area called Sápmi, simply because the Sami have produced their music right there. Sápmi we can easily say includes four countries: Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland. There are several professional concepts in yoik, but now we will get a taste of what dialect differences in yoik can mean. Here we meet two of Sápmi's talented vocal artists. One is from Karasjok, while the other is from Kautokeino. Why is it said that Kautokeino yokes the hymns, while Karasjok sings the yoiks? So close to each other, yet so distant in vocal dialect. Join an exciting vocal concert. Both artists grew up with yoik and are driven yoik.

Marit Inga Sara Pettersen lives in Alta. She is a traditional yoiker from Kautokeino. Marit Inga has composed a number of yoiks herself and participated in several stages with her compositions, including the Sami Grand Prix. She has also yoiked her compositions for music.

Per Tor Turi is from Karasjok. He has composed countless yoiks and has performed on several major stages, as well as been a guest artist on commissioned works at the Telemark Festival for Mari Boine. Per Tor has also released several CDs with yoik, as well as participated in several commercial recordings. There is great interest from abroad for Per Tor's yoik competence, and a number of TV companies have filmed Per Tor.

The concert is curated by Juoigiid Searvvi.
