An evening of Irish and Norwegian folk music at Riksscenen.
Martin Hayes from County Clare on the Irish west coast is considered an extraordinary talent within traditional Irish music. His knowledge of traditions combines with visions of tomorrow's music, not to mention the unique sound he is able to extract from his instrument, has made him a well-known name in the genre. He seeks inspiration in all directions, including from Arvo Part, Jordi Savall and John Coltrane, but he never lets go of the traditional music he grew up with.Martin Hayes Quartet expands on many of the musical ideas pursued by Martin in his longstanding partnership with Dennis Cahill. The melody still remains central but now with an added range of sonic possibilities provided by the bass clarinet and viola d'amore.
Aslak Brimi Kvartett offers different musical moods with the fiddle as a focal point. The quartet's songs are rhythmic and hypnotic, clearly inspired by the raw and forceful folk music of the Gudbrandsdalen valley.
The concert is part of the 2018 Oslo World Festival.
