“I should have said no,” is the sentence that rings out in Else Kåss Furuseth’s latest book, in which she looks back on her life as a yes-person and tries to understand why she has embraced so many idiotic ideas that have come her way. And rarely has the phrase “the path is the goal” been more appropriate, because here the conclusions are few, but the pursuit of them is all the more painful and fun.

I Should Have Said No is a little gem of a book that should make you reflect on your own boundary setting, but which perhaps ultimately ends up asking a more difficult question: Can we even change the most ingrained aspects of our personality?
